JOIN US FOR THE 25th ANNUAL MELPOMENE 5K
SATURDAY, MAY 3, 2008
ON SCENIC MISSISIPPI RIVER BOULEVARD IN ST. PAUL
Sponsored by:

Serious runners and race walkers, families and kids, casual runners, and teams are all welcome to enjoy a beautiful spring morning on the banks of the Mississippi.
The first Melpomene race took place in 1983 when there were few women who thought about competing in a road race. Melpomene Founder, Judy Mahle Lutter, saw the race as a great way to bring attention to the benefits of physical activity for women. Men greatly outnumbered women in that first year. But, as the work of Melpomene in promoting women’s health grew, so did women’s participation in the race. Today, the Melpomene 5K is an anticipated event on the annual race calendar.

KIDS FUN RUN
In 2007, nearly 450 children competed in this event. They came with their families or in groups from schools, neighborhoods or community centers. Unlike other races that may include a kids run as an after-thought or an add-on, this has been a feature of the Melpomene race for more than 20 years. For $5.00, each entrant gets an official race number bib and a t-shirt. Kids choose between a half mile and a one mile distance. Parents can run alongside a child or cheer them on from the sidelines.
